April 27, 2008

It’s the first week in a long time that we’ve had no change in positions in the main leaderboard.  The season has gone on so long now that there seems to be a little bit of space between all the teams now, and bar some exceptionally good … or bad scoring, then not many positions are going to change between now and the next two weeks.

… will update commentry later.

April 20, 2008

Now that we’ve got the photos of Dans presentation and celebrations of his inter-transfer victory out of the way, we can get beck to the mundane business of finishing out the very last few weeks of this season. This is the fourth last week, and the jostling for positions is as intense as ever.

The Magicians again managed to pull something out of the bag this week. With all his players back playing again, goals from Santa Cruz, Agbonglahor, and Petrov … and a clean sheet from Pepe Reine, on 37 points, they were the only team in the thirties this week. Sixty points ahead, three games left, he’s beginning to finally feel assured of the ultimate glory for the season. The Eagles slipped up this week only managing an average score of 22 points, but they maintain their sixty point lead over the Hammers in third place.

Most teams scored around the 20 points for the week, but Shaybee used the opportunity to move into fourth place and into the money at the expense of Pat Murphys team of inexperienced boys (Alan Hansen said of them “You’ll never win anything with kids” … how right he was …. ;) ) The Hammers were not looking too convincing this weekend and now see themselves with only 16 points to spare over fourth place. there’s nothing in it there.

Dermot and Máiréad both played out a stalemate this weekend with sixteen points a piece. Don gave up another four points to Sonya this weekend. (do that for the next three weeks and she’ll scrape past him by a single point!

The Vultures recent surge to life ground to a halt this weekend scoring only 11 points, and putting his hopes of catching Dermot Mc’s lads in jeopardy. Thirty points in three weeks, it’s still possible, though Dermot Mc may be looking at trying to catch Mairead who is 40 points ahead.

The last Inter-Transfer competition is hotting up as it also comes to an end with only two points separating the Eagles, Magicians and Hammers on top of the table. It’s going to be a doing dong battle for the last piece of silverware for the season.

update 21-Apr: Lots of assists came in on the scores today. I’ve updated the tables below.

Victory Celebrations for Dan

April 15, 2008

Dan had been onto me in a recent comment wondering why he looked so glum in the photo I in the recent post about his Inter-Transfer victory:

Where did you get that god awful picture of me? I demand that be taken down and a much nicer picture of me put up…surely there’s one of me drunk from last years night at the dogs

So i went back to my photo’s from the night of the presentation, and at first I was reluctant to release this photo of him drunk later on that night, getting maybe a little too carried away with some of his ‘friends’, but he has asked for it himself. I guess the excitement of the day had gotten to him and he had to sit down in front of his friends. All the same, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves in what sure looks like a wild night out. I’m not sure how he was the following morning.

update: I’ve had to make a slight modification because Dan wasn’t too happy in the light he was being portrayed in … but who is ever happy with the pictures I manage to root out. So just to give you an idea of the wild night he was having after his victory, you can see the picture below.

April 14, 2008

It was a big weekend for the teams on top of the table. Man United look odds on now to collect their second league title in a row., thought there’s one game left before the final scores for the week can be counted. Wigan V Chelsea tonight really should see the Chelsea players pick up a few more points, but there’s not too many Chelsea or Wigan players left on peoples teams.

Updated 11pm 14-Apr: WHHOOOOOO  HOOOOOOOOOO! Chelsea only drew tonight and have virtually handed the league title to United. Now that I’ve gotten that little rant off my back, I can get back to business here. The magicians like United are holding their own on top of the table. Now only 4 games left and 47 points ahead, it’s looking more and more likely as the weeks pass that it’s all done and dusted at this stage.

Similarly the Eagles and the Hammers XI have strengthened their positions in second and third. It looks at this stage that unless there’s a momentous change of fortunes for some of the other teams, Pat ‘daddy’ Murphy and Shay Byrne are going to battle it out for the last paying spot of fourth place.

One time leaders -the Deadlies have now slumped to seventh position, mainly due to his lack of one Christiano Ronaldo, but what’s worse for his point of view is that he has lost another 12 points to Sonya and he’s now got only 15 points of breathing space now. Likewise Dermot lost 5 points to Mairead, and is now only 12 ahead of her. 4 weeks of nerves ahead for some, but it’s at the end when the cream really comes to the top.

Out of nowhere! Transfer Window 3

April 13, 2008

Congrats (eventually) to Dan Mac who stormed to victory in the third installment of the transfer window, a full forty seven points ahead of the Magicians in second place (nobody ever remembers the losers). He is shown below sporting the trophy that now adorns his coffee table (cos it’s too big to put anywhere else). I don’t know why he looks so glum, maybe it’s because his team has virtually fallen apart in the meantime, and is no longer really challenging for a place in the top four which would have seen him move up into the prize-money. Or maybe it’s bacause he hasn’t received any of his prize-money which should have gone with the trophy. He’ll have to push hard to get it!

But it was a well deserved victory for Dan. He had a drastic clear-out at Christmas when he was convinced they were a bunch of sooners, and would come to no good for the rest of the season.

Dan here shown recieving the inter-transfer prepetual trophy for his splendid victory

April 6, 2008

Player of the week has to be Garth Barry. Nineteen points for Sonya and Ola, which really pushed them to the head of the weeks scorers.

The magicians have passed the thousand point mark, now only 55 points ahead of the Eagles in second who are in turn fifty nine points ahead of third. With only five games remaining, those top positions appear secure, but there’s lots of fun in the chasing pack. Hammers XI who have been floundering in mid-table all season have made a break for it this week, leap-frogging three teams and tentatively holding third position. But with three teams within 21 points of him, he’s got a lot to worry about. The real truth will come at the very end of the season and the final positions are revealed.

Update: Portsmouth 1 – 0 West Ham. The Eagles gained some more ground on the Magicians on top. It’s down to 45 points with five games to go now. It was 80 points a few weeks ago. I’m getting a little worried now. This was never in the script!

There are some other interesting inter spouse tussles going on at the moment. Don has been falling and is now only 17 points ahead of Sonya,  while Dermot and Mairead have been tooing and frowing all season and there is again only 17 points between them.
