January 21, 2008

Scores as of Monday night 21st Jan. Dan McCarthy had another scorcher this weekend. The second week in a row, and looks like he may pass out the brother soon, after being 90 points behind only two weeks ago!

Elsewhere, it was a stalemate around most of the table, as most teams got between 35 and 45 points, though Mairead closed in on the mid-table group again with a very handsome 50 points, with another player in action tonight.

Weekly Updates gone bad

January 18, 2008

I’ll be away for the next few days, and probably won’t be able to get the scores done until Monday evening. Also I’ll be away on holidays from Jan 24th to Feb 9th … so no updates to the scores for two and a half weeks as i’ll be in Kitzbuhel (picture below) enjoying myself … for once :)

Top Team IT2

January 11, 2008

This is the best team you could have had for the second Inter Transfer window (Nov 2 – Jan 2). A massive 528 points, far outscoring any of our lame efforts. How many of those players did you have? I think that all but Joe Hart and Sol Campbell were represented on peoples teams.

  £ Points
Joe Hart 3 25
William Gallas 7 46
Martin Laursen 3,5 43
Phil Neville 4,5 38
Sol Campbell 5 35
Cristiano Ronaldo 9,0 84
Steven Gerrard 8,0 63
Tim Cahill 5,5 60
Dimitar Berbatov 8 55
Roque Santa Cruz 4 46
Kenwyne Jones 2,5 33

  60 528

Our best team only managed 359 points. We could have beaten that with the following team purchased for only £37m:

  £ Points
Joe Hart 3 25
George McCartney 2 22
Martin Laursen 3,5 43
James McEveley 2 9
Stephen Kelly 2 4
Cristiano Ronaldo 9,0 84
Clint Dempsey 2,5 37
Tim Cahill 5,5 60
Mikael Forssell 2,5 25
Kenny Miller 2,5 23
Kenwyne Jones 2,5 33

  37 365

He’s a winner alright !

January 8, 2008

Rolling in the chips at the Roulette table

Mike Cashman cordially accepted his prize as winner of the Inter-Transfer Competition #2 recently. He commented that his recent good form was in no small part to his ability to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to football players. Time and experience has taught him well, but on being pressed further, he admitted that it was a pure fluke that won it for him in the end … after the disaster of the first leg of the campaign, they could only get better. He thanked all the others for not being as lucky as he was, especially for lots of other teams players getting injured at the wrong times, and the good sportsmanship shown by everyone all along.

Unfortunately there were no pictures taken at the presentation, because the press photographer was unable to find the venue, so remote is this place called Tullig. But Cashman as usual wanted to keep a low profile and not to get tongues wagging, so he took his prize and slinked back out of the limelight, and into that shady place that is Tullig House.

However recent news reports are telling us that he has absconded to Vegas to see if he can further increase his prize-winnings, confident he is that his run of luck will continue after his recent success locally. One eagle eyed member of the paparazzi spotted him on the roulette table and grabbed a quick snap before he realised what was happening (as seen in the picture above). The chips were flying, cigars and whiskey were the norm and he was generally living it up with all the trappings of his new found wealth.

But it begs the question … how far could €20 really take him?

Transfer Window 2

January 3, 2008

The second transfer window is now open, and will remain so until before the games on Jan 12th. The table below shows the number of transfers remaining for the rest of the season and the value of each team (£60m max), so it is a good guide to work off of.

  Team Value # Transfers Remaining
Dans Macs 59,5 8
Dermot G 58,5 9
Dermot Mc 60,0 9
Don’s Deadlies 60,0 7
Donal G 56,5 13
Donies Dynamos 58,5 13
Hammer XI 57,0 6
Mairead 59,0 8
Mikes Magicians 60,0 5
Ola’s Eagles 59,0 5
Pat Murphy 59,0 6
Pats Vultures 59,5 6
Shaybees 60,0 5
Sonya 59,5 8

You can find your current team of players HERE (in last weeks scores). All Player available for selection and their details can be found if you follow these links:

To assist you when you are in those pages, you can sort the players according to value, points, alphabetical by clicking on the header on top of the lists. Also clicking on each player gives more detailed statistics of points scored in each game.

I’m going to allow one transfer after the transfer window, a bit like the Christmas transfer last time around, partly because I know that people will be screaming to allow a change, but also because the actual transfer premiership transfer window doesn’t end until the end of January … so some players like Lampard, Anelka or others may be moving abroad or to lower divisions where they can be guaranteed their game. But use the transfer wisely, there will be no second one.

I would also recommend getting rid of your African players that are heading off to the African Cup of Nations next week, and the final is scheduled for February 10th. Of course some players may be hole long before this if their countries do poorly. It’s up to you to decide whether to take a chance until they get back or not.

I’d be looking closely at the list of injured & suspended players which can be found HERE, HERE and HERE.

Don’t forget that there’s another transfer window in March, so use all your transfers now at your pearl …. like DJ last year when he bought Larsson in January, knowing full well that he was heading back to Sweden in March … and he left himself no remaining transfers … and down the table he dropped.

The usual rules apply:

  • 1 goalie, 4 defenders, 3 midfielders, 3 strikers
  • £60m max team value
  • 3 players max from any one team (yes i will enforce it this time)

As I think of more (or as they happen to come into me), i will write them down here.

Inter Transfer 2 Final Scores

January 3, 2008

The Inter Transfer Competition from November 3rd to Jan 2nd has finished. Mikes Magicians have beaten off the competition with what proved to be a tremendous Christmas for the team as they ran away with the second Inter Transfer competition, and have also soared to the top of the overall leaderboard. He gutted his original team back at the start of November, and this gave him almost immediate results as he has continued to climb the table since. Leading inter-transfer 2 from the second week onwards, he never gave up his lead, and pulled away over the Christmas period.

He is sure to be presented with his prize in the next few days if anyone can track him down, so maybe there will be a photo taken for here too. But knowing his luck, it will be monopoly money that he will get!

Team Name IT2 Christmas (22 Dec – 2 Jan)

Mikes Magicians 359 139
Ola’s Eagles 316 134
Don’s Deadlies 310 109
Dermot G 307 102
Dermot Mc 300 119
Sonya 295 114
Hammer XI 293 103
Pat Murphy 284 109
Shaybees 265 118
Mairead 244 90
Pats Vultures 232 116
Dans Macs 191 60
Donal G 190 51
Donies Dynamos 190 61

On a side note, just so you can see how the overall table has changed during the second transfer window, you can see a lot of big movement up and down the table. It seems that most teams have either gone up 5-6 places or fallen 5-6 places. I wouldn’t expect so much movement in the next Inter Transfer window because teams are a little more spread out, teams are a little more settled, and people are running out of transfers to make.

Team Name IT2 Christmas Overall (2/Jan)

1 (+7) Mikes Magicians 359 139 554
2 (+1) Don’s Deadlies 310 109 531
3 (-2) Pat Murphy 284 109 519
4 (+2) Sonya 295 114 507

January 2, 2008
  • There have been lots of goals this week with Martin Laursen,Benni McCarthy,Elano,Carlos Tevez,John Utaka and Emmanuel Adebayor all finding the net, and with a number of teams claiming sheets (ManU, Arsenal,Portsmouth,Everton, Man City,Blackburn), points for this set of New Years games have been among the highest in a number of weeks.
  • Top man this week was Shay with 53 points. Three goals, three assists, four clean sheets and a few yellow cards saw him put up this big total. So like a football dropped from a height, he’s on the bounce back up the table, picking up two places this week, and lots more in his sights if they’re not careful.
  • The Vultures have produced an astonishing display with 51 points this week and have moved off the bottom of the table, and only another sixteen points will see them move up two further places! Little did he think on Christmas morning as he scaled Mushera that he would be in such a position just a week later. But now can they choose wisely for this transfer window, and put his dark days behind him?
  • The Magicians have pulled away from the challengers this week, gaining ground on their nearest six challengers, and it very much looks like they have sown up the second inter-transfer window. Their first trophy in Fantasy Football history, all thanks to a sparkling turnaround since the last transfer window.
  • The Deadlies see the lead slip further from their grasp again this week, losing a further 21 points on the leader. Injuries and non-selection continue to blight his defense and midfield. He would probably still be on top otherwise, as it has been a problem for the last six weeks
  • Shaybee is showing resurgent form again, and is beginning to climb up the table again
  • Ola produced a strong display and has moved from a position of barely holding onto fifth to challenging for fourth.
  • Pat Murphy is not out of it yet, but will have to do some serious shopping in this transfer window.
  • Pat and his current nemesis Sonya, have been having a ding-dong battle over Christmas, exchanging third position a number of times. But Sonya has not challenged this week, and will have to mind her back in case she slips down a notch.
  • The two Dermots have settled on the middle ground for this week, continuing their similar form of recent weeks. Much is expected of each of these up and coming managers.
  • Mairead had a good week, only to see the teams just above her do even better! But, she’s not far off that big bunch in the middle of the pack. She has a little work to do.
  • An awful big gap of sixty points has opened up between tenth and eleventh position in the table. Any of the four teams below that line will find it very difficult to bridge that gap.
  • It’s the end of the current Inter-Transfer competition, so therefore you will be able to exchange your players over the next 9 days (until the matches on the 12th Jan). I will post details on the transfer details in due course (tomorrow if i have time).
  • Oh … and a very Happy New Year to everyone :)
