26 Feb 07 Inter Transfer

This is a proper look at who is winning the Inter – Transfer race. There’s only one set of games before the next transfer window. I feel it’s going to be a close run thing. Last time out, Pat Golden came from nowhere in the last 2 weeks to steal victory from the grasp of Der’s Mighty Men. They’re on top again going into the final week and i think he could once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We wait with baited breath.

I have to admit it was bad. Worse than bad. Worse than putrid. So bad that i thought i’d be getting nevative scores for the week! … and to compound my misery i got this text:
“jesus mike….u scored 3! dats brutal..worst ever…as I keep saying…give me de bucks …its all over..ha..ha…“.
I’ll leave it to your imagination as to who sent it (it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out). I suppose i should expect that sort of thing especially when i’m perfectly capable of dishing it out here. It is a family thing though as donal was a measly one point ahead of me. However it is shattering as i’ve spent the last few weeks slowly catching Der, only to fall away again into the mire with PatG and DonalM.
Finally on that same topic and for the record, the previous holders of horrid weekly scores were Eddies Gunners (30 Nov: 8pts) and Donal’s Losers (24 Jan: 6pts) …. so i’m in good company.
The weekly scores seemed to be a reverse of normal service, with Don and Mairead having the best scores of the week. This has propelled don to within toughing distance of the inter-transfer competition. The last hope of getting their money back for some of the people here. Oh, and Pat’s Pricks have dropped out of the prize money down into fourth position mostly due to his whopping score of 7 points. (It should be noted that he had the audacity to ring me and slag me about my score when he was also in single figures).
Anyway, it’s all about the last set of games for the inter transfer competition next weekend. This week is best forgotten by most.

While i was on the topic of old photo’s, I remembered this little gem which i pulled from my archive. Some may have seen it before and forgotten it, but it’s well worth another view. It’s a little more recent than the the previous pictures, but I do think it’s a big transformation from from desperado to playboy.

The reason i have been showing these pictures is that there haven’t been many games of late, and i’ve to keep people some way interested (or embarrassed). Back to normality this weekend. as there is almost a full set of games to be played. After that there is another full set of games next weekend, before we hit the last transfer window! Now would be a good time to pull out all the stops and snatch victory in the inter-transfer window.

Desperadoes II

To add to that dodgy photo that appeared a few days ago, due to popular demand (and I guess some trepidation) our local historian has unearthed another dodgy photo from that night many many eons ago. Can you identify this desperado … or do you know any of his descendants?

But remember the old saying … “Never stray from the path, never eat a windfall apple and never trust a man whose eyebrows meet in the middle“ …. especially when he has our prize money!!!

I just don’t know what to say … i never thought i’d see the day

A defenders nightmare this weekend as most teams leaked a few goals, and without many goals for most or our teams either. Shaybee ended his recent poor form with a stunning 40 points, to move well away from the relegation zone. Drogba, Speed, Johnson, Vidic and Evra all doing well for him.
Eddie’s Gunners, Donal’s Losers, Don’s Deadlies and Mairead’s Sexy Men all had a poor week loosing ground on the teams around them.
Then i come to poor Christiano Ronaldo. The poor lad was apparently suffering from a “heavy cold”. Now if he got a good bout of pneumonia or something to knock him back for a few weeks, i wouldn’t mind either.
On top of the table there was a status quo, with Pat’s Pricks being put under pressure by Donal Murphy.

Heuston, we have a problem

No it’s not trouble in space, or even trouble for Iarnróid Eireann. I’ve had a few complaints wondering why their weekly points when added to last weeks total points don’t add up to their total for this week (
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, after reporting the problem to my IT manager, he’s come back after a few days saying that there is a bug in the software, which will have to be patched. On the good side, he did however say that the problem is just confined to the weekly scores and does not affect the overall scores. (at this juncture he’s not sure if it affects the inter-transfer points). A fix will be in the offing soon, but he said that other more critical projects needed completing first.

unfortunately, some participants have seen fit to demand a personal apology from myself. I’m just the PR guy here …. anyway what would i know about that stuff …. i’m just a farmer for gods sake!

OK, Technical guy decided to fix the problem after all!! And i found a few discrepancies with the scores. The beneficiaries are:
Eddie’s Gunners +19 (points from Louis Boa Morte were not being added in)
Pat’s Pricks +4 (Ian Pearce was going into negative values recently)
Don’s Danger Men +1 (Lucas Neil)
DJ’s Deadlies +1 (John (Patsil)
Mairead’s Sexy Men +1 (Lucas Neil)

Also, the weekly scores should add up from now on. and the inter transfer points have been updated too, but they will no longer show points for players you have sold (what they would have scored). Here’s the correct leaderboard (hopefully) for the 5th February:

Pat’s Pricks have stormed into third place this week and into the prize-money, as the produce an excellent week after some recent indifferent form, since their antics over Christmas. They now only have thirty points to make up to get into second spot. As we’ve seen in the recent past, that can be done in two weeks easily. Der’s Mighty Men had a good week, but his closest rivals all had better weeks and gained ground on him. He’s demanding his money already, but there’s life in these old legs yet! It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
I was talking to Don tonight, and he was saying a couple of interesting things:

• That he’d normally not have watched many games, but he has the vested interest now which is great to hear. (i’ve heard this from others too) thanks go to DJ who started this out… and also holds the money by the way.
• more importantly though, in his battle to pass out DJ’s Danger men, and avoid being passed by Mairead’s Sexy Men, they’re only ten points behind Eddies Gunners and Shaybee’s team. It was looking like being a dogfight down there. It’s getting down right dirty.

Injury News:

• Edwin Van der Saar (Don’s Deadlies & Cash’s Cruisers) has broken his schnoz against Spurs last week. and will miss this weekend’s game against Charlton. But come on, it was big enough already now it’s going to be big and crooked. The lesson for the future is “Never pick any of the same players as Don’s Deadlies. we all remember Ramage, Ameobi, Doyle, Gallas, King, Baptista, Ridgewell (he was poor anyway), carvalho. ….. now if it would only work for ronaldo!
• Andy Johnson (Shaybee’s) is having trouble with his ankle. He’s injured half his time anyway.

Blogger.com (blogspot.com) was recently taken over by Google, and the links i had on the right side of the page have been lost. i’ll try to recreate them as soon as i can. The site is a bit flaky at the moment … no cause of mine, but it is frustrating.
so just be patient. Your comments are welcome (there’s a link at the bottom of each post for this).

Der Golden has begun to resurrect himself again with a mighty 48 points, as pretender to the crown Donal Murphy slips on some banana’s this week!
It appears that Der is trying to call in the bookies at this stage and get his money in advance. How wrong he was first time around, when Pat’s Pricks stole the show for the first transfer window with a massive run over the Christmas period. But you know, the game’s not over until the fat lady sings. (Where’s Mary Harney when you want her??). Sure, it can’t be long now until Ronaldo breaks his leg. Someone’s going to clean him out at some stage. If not, i’ll be on a plane over to Manchester to do it myself.
We seemed to have entered a stage where there are now two tiers in the division. Top five and then bottom five. (39 points seperating 5th and 6th)….. A little like how the eircom league used to conduct it’s business during that latter third of the year (that’s not so long ago)
No real movers or shakers this week, except that Donal Murphy’s team have eased their pressure on Cash’s Crusiers.
