There was one match last Tuesday night. Watford V Blackburn. There was only one player playing that was of any interest to our mini league. Benedict McCarthy, and he scored a goal just before he was taken off, so he gets 6 points for Der’s Mighty Men, Cash’s Cruisers, Don’s Deadlies. But what it really means is that the top three teams stretch a little further away from the rest of the teams, but more importantly, Don’s Deadlies have leapfrogged DJ’s Danger men and move into third last…. and so their battle continues.

I think that there’s FA Cup matches this weekend, so the next league games are being played Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st of January (This time next week)

One word for everyone scores this week …. “putrid”.

It seems like being on top of the table is like a poisoned chalice. First Donal’s Losers were steaming away in front. They have now managed to tumble to fifth and there seems to be no hope of a resurrection. Then the Cruisers clocked up a massive forty point lead. Now they’re clinging onto second place by the skin of their teeth, as Donal Murphy’s pretenders throw their hat into the ring to become eventual champions. Der’s Mighty Men have opened up a twenty point lead on top, but their form is poor also (and he now has Kevin Doyle out for over a month with a badly bruised hamstring), so they seemed to have turned the corner as regards their form and the only way for them now is down. Pat’s pricks look like they’ve run out of steam after they put in a huge effort over the Christmas to win the first inter-transfer competition. They might not get a sniff of the title from here on in now that Robin VanPersie is out for the next six weeks.

But this competition is more than about money. It’s about pride and there’s 2 real dogfights going on at the moment. Shaybee’s and Eddie’s Gunners are dead level this week, and with no team near them above or below, they’ll be concentrating hard on each other’s form in the next few matches. Don and DJ’s teams are having a real slugging match near the foot of the table. Bragging rights are all important. Don who has a large back-room of team selectors at work is possibly suffering from a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, whereas DJ has spent many a long lonely night wondering what combination of players can drag him out of this quagmire (a bit like being a west ham manager at the moment …. except that it’s harder to get players to play for you if you’re a west ham manager!!). All i can say is: “COME ON MAIREAD’S SEXY MEN”, and put the two boys to shame.

Finally, an apology that i did not have any updates on this site last week. It was due to a number of things coming together

• I had to fix the spread-sheet i was using to calculate the scores, because the change of inter transfer window broke it
• blogger.com seemed to have been taken over by google, and it wasn’t allowing me to put anything on the site for a few days.
• Getting enough time to do it
• Laziness. Frankly i’d happily spend hours playing Quake, rather than do any real work!!!

I’d also like to say that Pat’s Pricks are looking for an apology for being short 8 points or so last week. Well there’s none forthcoming from me. My technical team have told me that the computer somehow made a mistake when adding up the numbers. What can i say, never trust a computer!!

Don’t forget that the transfer window closes at 12:00pm this coming Saturday 13th January 2007.
Same rules as before apply as the first transfer window

Transfer Window 1: 13th – 18th November (12pm)
Transfer Window 2: 5th – 13th January
Transfer Window 3: 18th – 31st March

You may only swap a Goalie for a goalie, defender for a defender, a midfielder for a midfielder, or a striker for a striker.
Maintain 11 players on the team.
Stay within the budget of £60m.
12 transfers spread over the three transfer windows ( you can use them all in this first transfer window if you want, or you may not want to use any at all)
All decisions are final (or else ye’d probably try to get away with murder)
No transfers will be taken after the first match starts on Saturday 18th 12:45pm.

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you’re all feeling optimistic for the latter half of the season, and that the bad form of the last few months is a thing of the past.

Christmas has been hectic for all our premiership players, and it’s hard to keep track of all the happenings. Der’s mighty men sneaked into the lead on Stephen’s Day, only to be wrestled back by the Cruisers on the 30th, only to loose it to the Mighty Men on New Years Day. The worrying thing for the wto teams on top is that they are being stalked by Donal Murphy’s team and Pat Goldens team, as the league table seems to be tightening up every week! It seems like they might go the way of Donal C’s losers and Eddie’s Gunners (formerly 1st and 3rd back in November).

But the man of the moment is young Pat Golden who despite his years, has powered to the top of the Inter-Transfer window to claim the winners prize. His original team would only have scored 223 points in this term, but a big clean-out of the team meant that he scored 327 points, despite having his goalie out of action since the end of November. All his team performed well, but Christiano Ronaldo was the top dog with some scintillating performances, and more than a few goals too. He will be presented with his prize in the near future. It was supposed to be €20, but since he has still not paid his entry fee, then he’ll be getting a blank cheque (that is a cheque for zero euro). We’ll have the presentation photo up here when the ceremony goes ahead.
